General Information on Tatonka Flats Buffalo Hunts.

Tatonka Flats is the place to hunt buffalo.  This private game hunting preserve, typical northern Alberta Wilderness, is managed to provide the ultimate experience in buffalo hunting.  Located about a 90 minute drive north of Edmonton, we can offer you hunts for giant trophy bison bulls, or meat hunts for bison cows and calves on this secluded wildlife habitat, where an oilfield road provides the only access.

Hunting is done on foot, spot and stalk or out of tower stands overlooking open meadows or near buffalo trails.  We may also use ATVs to get around and get the trophies out of the bush, after a successful hunt.  It will be your choice, which way you would like to hunt.  Seeing one of those 2000 lbs plus bulls will be exciting and a good shoot will be needed for the kill.  We recommend large calibre rifles like a 30-06, 7 mm or 300 magnums, however bow and arrow or black powder guns are also allowed for the experienced hunter.  Buffalo are very tough and can be dangerous, especially when wounded.  They have to be treated with respect.
Mature Trophy Bulls may range from 7 to 15 years in age and will weigh 2000 lbs plus. We hunt those monsters from September 1st to January 31st, when the hides and capes are best, and make impressive mounts.  Once you make your kill, the whole animal is yours.  We will help you with skinning, getting it out of the bush and can arrange meat cutting for you and offer you our taxidermy services.

Meat Hunts are mainly for cows.  Those average about 900 lbs of live weight and will provide plenty of meat for your freezer.  Cow hunts we can run to the end of February.

Accommodations are provided during the hunt in our rustic hunting cabin.  Also, we provide you here with home cooked meals and beverages for your enjoyment.  We can also arrange a stay in hotels in Edmonton at extra cost.

Bookings are on a first come basis.  We do not take more than one hunting party at a time, therefore, advance booking is needed to guarantee your hunt dates.  We only can confirm your hunt, after we receive a 50% deposit.
